Feast of the Holy Translators Service at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale

On Friday, October 12, 2018, the Feast of the Holy Translators was celebrated with eve of the Feast service at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale under the auspices of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, and with the participation of Prelacy Clergy.

H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Vicar General, presided over the service, which was comprised of prayers and hymns, and delivered the sermon. The Vicar General highlighted the significance of the invention of the Armenian alphabet and the unparalleled role of St. Mesrob Mashdots, his colleagues and students, who fulfilled a duty ordained by God in giving us our written culture. He spoke of the significance of the translation of the Bible to Armenian, through which God spoke to the Armenian people in Armenian, Armenians began praying in Armenian, creating hymns and prayers in Armenians, stating that our language became the foothold in the preservation of our national identity. The Vicar General stated that our language is a sacred, God-given gift, and the Feast of the Holy Translators a celebration of our religious and national identity, and concluded by inviting the faithful to continue the legacy of our forefathers.
