Prelacy Schools Commence the 2018-2019 Academic Year

Monday, August 20, 2018, marked the start of the 2018-2019 academic year for most Prelacy Schools. The back-to-school ceremonies began with prayer, the singing of national anthems and recitation of the “Student Oath.” Remarks were delivered by Principals, Directors, and School Board members. Local parish pastors read the back-to-school message of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate. His Eminence presided over the back-to-school ceremonies at Ferrahian and Marie Cabayan Schools and conveyed his blessings and well wishes for a fruitful academic year.

FERRAHIAN SCHOOL
The Ferrahian School academic commencement took place at “Avedissian” Hall, presided by the Prelate, who was accompanied by Archpriest Fr. Razmig Khatchadourian. Executive Council member Mr. Raffi Kouyoumjian, representatives from the Board of Regents of Prelacy schools, School Board and community organizations were present.

Mrs. Sossy Shanlian, Principal, delivered the opening remarks and welcomed the teachers and students to the new academic year and highlighted the mission of the Armenian school.

The Prelate highlighted the invaluable and unmatched role and mission of Armenian Schools, stating, “The Armenian School is not an ordinary institution of learning where students develop their minds with knowledge, where they are prepared for higher education and in the future to become productive citizens of society. The Armenian School offers much more than that; the Armenian School, above all, is a special and unique place where love and reverence for our faith and heritage is cultivated in our youth.” Next, the Prelate touched upon the 100th anniversary of the first Republic of Armenia, stating that this celebration is an opportunity to renew and revitalize our faithfulness to upholding the legacy of our forefathers who built our nation. The Prelate concluded his message by blessing and commending the principals, educators, parents, students, Board of Regents, School Board, Parent-Teacher Committee, sponsors, and community organizations for their valuable service, support, and encouragement.

MARIE CABAYAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Next, the Prelate and guests headed to the North Hills campus for the commencement ceremony of Marie Cabayan Elementary School. Mr. Jean Kossakian, Principal, delivered welcoming remarks. The Prelate praised the mission of the Armenian teacher and school, wishing all a fruitful academic year.

VAHAN AND ANOUSH CHAMLIAN SCHOOL
On the same day, the commencement ceremony of Vahan and Anoush Chamlian School took place. On behalf of the Prelate, Vicar General H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan was present during the ceremony, accompanied by Archpriest Fr. Vazken Atmajian, Archpriest Fr. Gomidas Torossian and Rev. Fr. Ardak Demirjian. In attendance were representatives from the Board of Regents of Prelacy schools and community organizations.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Mrs. Rita Kaprielian, Vice Principal. Thereafter, the Vicar General and clergy offered a prayer. Remarks were delivered by Dr. Talin Kargodorian, Principal, who welcomed the students and faculty. The Vicar General welcomed the students to their new academic year, wishing them strength and strides in this upcoming academic year, and then read the Prelate’s back to school message.

In the upcoming days, the Prelate will visit other Prelacy schools and convey his blessings and message.
