PRELATE TO PRESIDE OVER DIVINE LITURGY AND
FLAG CEREMONY AT ST. MARY’S CHURCH IN GLENDALE

On Sunday, October 7, 2012, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, will preside over Divine Liturgy and deliver the sermon at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale.

Following the service, the Prelate will preside over a flag ceremony with the participation of Homenetmen scouts and Sunday School students, during which the flags of Armenia, the U.S., and California will be blessed and raised in the Church courtyard on new flagpoles.

The flagpole sponsors are St. Mary’s Church and Prelacy sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Hovik and Seda Aghaian.

PRELATE OVERSEES CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS OF
ST. GARABED CHURCH OF LAS VEGAS

On Thursday, October 4, 2012, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian departed for Las Vegas to oversees the construction progress of St. Garabed Church.  Accompanied by Parish Pastor Archpriest Fr. Avedis Torossian and Parish Council Chair Mr. Adroushan Armenian, the Prelate visited the site and expressed his commendation to parish community leaders for the great progress they have achieved in a short period of time.

During his visit, the Prelate also had the opportunity to meet with Ms. Lindy Schumacher, who is the Nevada director of the Dream Fund at UCLA, under the auspices of benefactor Mr. Kirk Kerkorian.  Dream Fund had recently made a generous donation to the Las Vegas Parish Community to assist in the construction of St. Garabed Church and Cultural Center.  Ms. Schumacher, accompanied by Prelacy sponsor Mrs. Arda Yemenidjian, visited the construction site where she met with the Prelate, who was joined by  Fr. Avedis and Mr. Armenian.

The Prelate conveyed his thanks and gratitude to Ms. Schumacher for the grants allocated to Prelacy Schools for the current academic year, which has alleviated the financial burdens of our schools.  His Eminence also thanked the Dream Fund for their recent generosity to St. Garabed Church and Cultural Center, which will greatly assist the community in their plans to have the complex be the heart of the community, the spiritual and cultural center for youth and adults alike.

Prelacy Executive Council member and Building Committee Chair Mr. Vahan Bezdikian joined the Prelate in Las Vegas on Thursday evening to observe the progress and discuss the next phases of the project.

On the occasion of the Prelate’s visit, the dome was mounted atop the Church (press release to follow in the coming days).  The dome cross was consecrated by H.H. Catholicos Aram in during his Pontifical Visit to the Western Prelacy in October of 2011.

SPECIAL SERVICE ON THE EVE OF THE FEAST OF
THE HOLY TRANSLATORS

On Saturday, October 13, the Armenian Apostolic Church will celebrate the Feast of the Holy Translators, which is regarded as one of the greatest Feasts.  The Feast is a celebration of the invention of the Armenian alphabet, on the alphabet’s founder St. Mesrob Mashdots, Catholicos Sahak, King Vramshabouh, and the culture brought about the work of a host of translators.

Eve of the Feast service will be held on Friday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m., at Holy Martyrs Church in Encino, presided over by the Prelate and with the participation of clergy members.  The Prelate will deliver the sermon on this occasion.

SUNDAY SCHOOL SEMINAR TO BE HELD AT THE PRELACY

On Saturday, October 13, Sunday School directors, teachers, and volunteers will gather at the Prelacy “Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian” Hall for a one-day seminar.

The Prelate will preside over the seminar.  Sunday School staff will receive educational tools and have the opportunity to exchange information and ideas to better serve their individual Churches.

FERRAHIAN SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN DIVINE LITURGY
AT HOLY MARTYRS CHURCH

On Sunday, September 30, the Feast of the Holy Cross of Varak, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, presided over Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon at Holy Martyrs Church in Encino.

Following the decision of the Representatives Assembly to have Prelacy Schools’ students attend Divine Liturgy regularly, on this Sunday the 36 students of Ferrahian School’s 10th grade students attended the service.

The Prelate began his sermon by first welcoming the students and addressing the importance for our youth to become better familiarized with our religious services and become active participants in our Church.  His Eminence continued his sermon by speaking on the day’s feast, the Holy Cross of Varak, and on the significance of the Cross to Christians as a symbol of salvation.

Prior to the service the Prelate had a brief meeting with the students where he spoke to them on the purpose and importance of their attending Church.  At the conclusion of the service the students received copies of “The Word of God” as a gift from the Prelate.

In the coming weeks and months, students from different grade levels will attend Divine Liturgy as scheduled.

PRELATE REPRESENTED AT AGBU ASBEDS
“AN EVENING WITH AN AMBASSADOR”

The AGBU Asbeds have organized an event titled, “An Evening with an Ambassador”, which be held on Friday, October 5, at the AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Center in Pasadena.  The evening features keynote speaker and former Ambassador The Honorable Edward Djerejian who will lecture on “The Arab Awakening: The Turkish Role in the Region and the Future of Armenians in the Middle East”.

St. Sarkis Church Pastor Rev. Fr. Khoren Babochian will represent the Prelate.  Executive Council member Mr. Meher Der Ohanessian will also be in attendance.

PRELATE REPRESENTED AT ORGANIZATION OF ISTANBUL ARMENIANS
“THEATRE NIGHT”

The Organization of Istanbul Armenians has organized a Theatre Night, which will be held on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 at the AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School “Aghajanian” Hall.

The “Hrant Dink Pokr Pem” Theatre Group will perform Moushegh Ishkhan’s “Mernile Vorkan Tjvar Eh”.

Holy Cross Cathedral Pastor Rev. Fr. Ashod Kambourian will represent the Prelate at Saturday’s performance.
