Youth Conference Held at the Catholicosate

On Saturday, February 16, 2019, youth representatives from around the Diaspora gathered at the Catholicosate in Antelias for a two-day conference presided over by His Holiness Catholicos Aram I to identify contemporary challenges facing our youth and discuss practical approaches to overcoming those challenges.

Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian participated on behalf of our Prelacy.

The conference convened with the Pontiff’s message welcoming the representatives from Northern America, Europe, the Middle East, and Armenia and outlining the active presence and ventures of the Holy See of Cilicia in all aspects of our national life. His Holiness stated that the purpose of the gathering was to take practical steps to engage the youth and give them a pivotal role in our collective life as well as to hear and implement their suggestions. His Holiness added that the youth are involved in our national life but often they are not at the forefront, sometimes they have distanced themselves from our surroundings and sometimes they have been disregarded by the community, thus making it difficult for them to develop their national identity. The Pontiff also stressed the value of establishing an Armenian youth cyber community for the younger generations to be more organized and from where they can benefit and also be of benefit to our nation, an undertaking which requires manpower in the form of responsible leader types who will not be led astray by the negative aspects of the web.

Over the next four sessions participants discussed the possibility of establishing an Armenian youth cyber community and shared their thoughts around the topic.
