On Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019, St. Sarkis Church of Pasadena hosted its 30th annual reception honoring Armenian graduates of the Pasadena Unified School District. The event was held at the Pasadena Armenian Center under the auspices of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate. Executive Council member Avo Kechichian attended and read the Prelate’s message.

Guests in attendance included Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek and city officials, Pasadena Unified School District President Lawrence Torres and members, St. Sarkis Church Pastor Rev. Fr. Boghos Baltayan and Board members, representatives of community organizations, parents, and sponsors.

The reception began with the national anthems. Master of Ceremonies Koko Panossian welcomed the guests and invited Fr. Boghos to deliver the invocation.

Mr. Kechichian read the Prelate’s message, which began with His Eminence commending the principals, teachers, and administrators of the Pasadena Unified School District for their commitment to the proper education and instruction of our youth, and also the Pastor, Board of Trustees, and organizing committee of St. Sarkis Church for continuing the three-decades-long tradition. Addressing the graduates, the Prelate had urged them to place their trust in the Lord, to believe in themselves, to keep praying and keep learning and to reach for their dreams with faith, patience, hard work, and determination, and also to never forget their roots and their responsibilities to our church and nation.

Remarks were conveyed by St. Sarkis Church Board of Trustees Chair Hagop Yedalian, Mayor Terry Tornek, ANCA Pasadena Chair Shoghig Yepremian, and PUSD Board President Lawrence Torres. The keynote address was delivered by Armine Chaparyan, Assistant City Manager of the City of San Gabriel. Scholarships provided by Mr. and Mrs. Sarkis and Nune Sepetjian, Cynthia and Sylvia Tomboulian, and the Armenian Compatriotic Union of Ourfa were awarded, and all of the graduates received certificates of commendation from the Church and city. The program also featured Armenian folk dances, recitations, and a piano recital. The reception concluded with the benediction by Fr. Boghos and closing remarks by the MC.
