Easter Celebration Within the Prelacy

On Sunday, March 27, 2016, Prelacy Churches were full to capacity as faithful had gathered to collectively and joyfully celebrate the glorious Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, celebrated Divine Liturgy and delivered his Easter message at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale, in the presence of thousands of faithful, among them Glendale city officials and Executive Council members.

In his sermon, the Prelate reflected on the jubilant message and priceless gift of Easter, the hope of new, abundant, and eternal life granted by the Resurrection of our Lord. Those who witnessed the Resurrected Christ marveled at the glory of His Resurrection; today, we too continue to marvel at this greatest miracle of all time, stated the Prelate. Continuing, he stated that just as there were attempts to put an end to the earthly ministry of Christ, there are still evil forces in the world today, but as faithful Christians we are strengthened by our belief that truth and righteousness will always triumph, as Christ triumphed over death as the true light and the path. “Let us take this joyous time to become uplifted and renewed in our faith and spirits, let us hear and follow Christ’s commandments and try to adopt a more Christ-like way of living and serving, and let us always use good to overcome evil. It is by following this path of life that our nation was reborn after the Genocide, and it is the same path we are to follow, with our elders setting the right example for our younger generations,” concluded the Prelate.

The Easter celebration had begun the prior evening with Easter Eve Divine Liturgy and “Jrakalooyts – Lighting of Candles” service.

The service began with the reading of Scriptures by Mesrobian School and Holy Cross Sunday School students. Divine Liturgy followed, celebrated by the Prelate, who also delivered the message, in which he highlighted that the Resurrection of Christ is the greatest testimony that God’s will always prevails and the greatest demonstration of the depth of God’s sacrificial love for us. Therefore, as faithful Christians, we must always give praise and glory to God and follow in His example of loving service, as did our forefathers, who were illuminated by the light of Christ and thus illuminated our nation, concluded the Prelate.

The Jrakalooyts service followed, during which candles were lit symbolizing the Light of Christ as joyful declarations of “Christ is risen from the dead” echoed throughout the Cathedral.

On Monday, March 28, on the occasion of Memorial Day which follows the five major feasts, clergy and faithful gathered at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills “Hall of Liberty” and Forest Lawn Glendale “Church of the Recessional” for requiem service. The Prelate presided over the service at the Hollywood Hills location.
