Episcopal Divine Liturgy and Blessing of Water at the Crescenta Valley Parish

On Sunday, September 20, 2015, on the eve of the 10th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Crescenta Valley parish, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, celebrated Divine Liturgy, delivered the sermon, and conducted the blessing of water with the newly blessed Holy Muron.

As the choir sang the hymn “Hrashapar,” the Prelate entered the Prelacy Hall where the parish holds its services, accompanied by Parish Pastor, Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian and deacons. Faithful in attendance included Executive Council member Mr. Meher Der Ohanessian, parish delegates and board members, and representatives of community organizations.

Prior to “Lord have mercy” prayers, Fr. Ghevont greeted the Prelate on behalf of the parish family and invited the faithful to pray for God to grant His Eminence long life and many more years of dedicated leadership and service to the Armenian Apostolic Church and community of faithful.

The Prelate commenced his sermon by thanking the Lord for granting the parish family the opportunity to partake in the blessing of water ceremony and to receive the blessings of the Holy Muron. He also commended the parish on their 10 years of service to the community and prayed that they are blessed with their own sanctuary soon.

His Eminence then focused on the message of the day’s Gospel reading from Mark 10:1-12 on the sanctity of marriage and family, emphasizing the guidelines for healthy families, which include love for God, prayer, goodness, faithfulness, and genuine love between family members based on patience, acquiescence, and, acceptance. The Prelate also stressed the importance of upholding the faith of our forefathers, passing them on to the new generations, and for parents to set good examples for their children. Finally, the Prelate reiterated the sanctity of holy matrimony by citing the following verse from the day’s passage, “Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

In conclusion, His Eminence spoke of the blessing of water ceremony, praying that the Holy Muron bring physically and spiritual cleansing to each individual who drinks of the blessed water, and to lead us, individually and collectively, on the righteous path of service for the splendor of our church and nation.

The blessing of water followed, after which requiem service took place. At the conclusion of the service, the Prelate exited the hall in a procession to the lobby where he blessed the faithful. Congregants joined the choir in singing “Cilicia,” after which the Prelate delivered the benediction.
