Episcopal Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Church on Pentecost And Granting of the Stoles

On Sunday, May 23, 2021, the Armenian Apostolic Church commemorated the feast of Pentecost. H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Prelate, celebrated Divine Liturgy and delivered his sermon on the Feast of Pentecost at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale.

During his sermon, the Prelate stated, “It is a joyous spiritual day today, God sends the Holy Spirit from heaven to earth, so that he who is conscious and ready, he who desires to have God in his life, accepts in himself the presence of the greatest power of the entire universe, the Holy Spirit. It is the Feast of Pentecost, a joyous and victorious day, whereby flames of tongues are descended upon the world, to reside on the followers of Jesus Christ and to rid sin from our lives, to enlighten and strengthen the spirit of the faithful and to grant all the graces of Heaven. As human beings, we have a body and soul, and it is our soul which rejoices today. Today there is a reminder from heaven to earth, ‘O man, do not forget that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit.’”

During the Divine Liturgy, the Prelate granted the honor of stole-bearer to 6 acolytes; Arshen Avanessian, Khatchig Hovasapian, Kevork Majarian, Garo Naljian, Saro Sandaljian and Shant Sandaljian. The Prelate delivered his remarks to the new stole-bearers, stating, “Today is a special day for St. Mary’s Church and our people, where 6 young men were delivered to the Altar as stole-bearers. Over the past ten years, these 6 young men have valued themselves in the temple of God, enlightened themselves for the glory of God, and become instruments in the hands of God. These barely twenty years old young men, were one of the first to enter the church every Sunday, without tiring, boredom, or grumbling, and in appreciation of their service, ‘they deserve divine attention and blessing today as vessels where God comes and settles in them.’”

Following the Divine Liturgy, the Prelate blessed the H.M.E.M “Mesrob Mashdots” emblems and placed them upon 5 deserving scouts who had successfully completed extensive religious classes.

Let us inform you that under the auspices of the Prelate, a special requiem service for the souls of departed Hamazkayin members was held in all the churches of the Western Prelacy.
