In late 2016, Holy Trinity Church Youth Group of Fresno initiated a remarkable project called the Orphanage Care Package Project with the aim of gathering clothes, toys, school supplies, and other necessities for orphans in Armenia.
With the help of church and community members, the Youth Group was able to put together care packages for 181 children, which in coordination with SOAR (Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief), will be delivered to four orphanages in Gyumri and Ijevan.
On Tuesday, March 7 2017, Holy Trinity Church Pastor Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Ashekian, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Fresno Mr. Berj Apkarian, Youth Group Coordinator Ms. Elena Sarmazian, and member Ms. Ani Ekizian traveled to Armenia to deliver the packages.
Prior to departing to Armenia, the delegation paid a visit to the Prelacy to receive the blessings of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate. The Prelate greeted the group at the “St. Dertad and St. Ashkhen” Chapel where he offered prayers and conveyed his blessings for a safe and productive journey.
