Inter-Prelacy Christian Education Conference at the Catholicosate

On Friday, March 1st, 2019, Inter-Prelacy Christian Education Committee of the Catholicosate of Cilicia convened its two-day conference in Antelias under the auspices of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I. The conference was organized by the Holy See of Cilicia Christian Education Department. The Committee, which is chaired by H.G. Bishop Meghrig Parikian and coordinated by Very Rev. Fr. Zareh Sarkissian, was formed to draft innovative means of advancing Christian Education among the people taking into consideration distinctive environments as well as to examine social ethics issues.

Representing the Western Prelacy at the conference were H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Vicar General, and Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian, Religious Council Chair.

Following opening remarks by Bishop Meghrig, His Holiness explained the direction and course of the conference and outlined the comprehensive spiritual, cultural, and national mission and service of the Holy See of Cilicia. Christian Education is not one facet of the Church’s mission; the Church is Christian Education and the mission of the Church is to be a witness for God’s Word, for the incarnation and its salvific message, stated His Holiness, adding that education is not limited to studying the Bible or children attending Sunday School and must take into account present-day conditions, mindset, and specificities of time and place. Though there are general guidelines for Christian Education, each Prelacy must formulate its particular methods based on its unique environment, said His Holiness, and concluded by noting that more and more focus is being given to Christian Education and for that this and similar conference are being held.
