Mid-Lent Celebration at Holy Cross Cathedral in Montebello

Wednesday, March 22, 2017 marked the midpoint of Great Lent. By the invitation of the Parish Dean, Parish Pastor, Board of Trustees, and Ladies Guild, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, presided over the mid-Lent celebration at Holy Cross Cathedral in Montebello.

The day began with Sunrise Service presided by the Prelate and with the participation of Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian, Very Rev. Fr. Torkom Donoyan, Very Rev. Fr. Vache Balekjian, and Rev. Fr. Ashod Kambourian. Mesrobian School Principal Mr. David Ghoogasian and students attended the service.

The Prelate delivered his message, beginning by greeting the faithful and the two new clergymen who had just arrived from the Catholicosate to begin their service within the Western Prelacy.

His Eminence spoke of mid-Lent as a time to reflect on our Lenten journey thus far to evaluate whether we have undergone spiritual renewal and transformation. The Prelate noted that each Sunday of Great Lent has a unique message, a call to spiritual awaking, prudence, virtue, repentance, and obedience to God’s will. “If we have fallen short of the purpose of Great Lent, mid-Lent is a wonderful opportunity to recommit ourselves to the process,” said the Prelate, and wished that the remaining weeks of Lent prepare us to welcome the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ with pure hearts and reinforced faith.

A luncheon organized by the Ladies Guild and hosted by Mrs. Anoush Martayan followed at “Bagramian” Hall. The Prelate and clergy delivered the invocation. Ladies Guild member Mrs. Elizabeth Khanjian welcomed the guests, thanked Mrs. Martayan for sponsoring the luncheon, and presented a bouquet to her. Mrs. Martayan conveyed her remarks as well. During lunch guests enjoyed a cultural program presented by Mesrobian School students.

The Prelate delivered his message, once again highlighting the meaning and purpose of Great Lent and blessing and commending the students and event organizers.
