Prelate Congratulates Homenetmen Family on the Occasion of the 40th Navasartian Games and Festival

Last weekend the Homenetmen 40th Navasartian Games and Festival was held at Birmingham High School. The closing ceremony took place on the afternoon of Sunday, July 5, 2015 featuring the parade of athletes and scouts and the distribution of championship trophies.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, attended the ceremony and delivered his message, in which he congratulated the Homenetmen family on another successful event. “The Navasartian games and festival has been a beloved staple in our community for four decades. For four days out of the year, tens of thousands of Armenians walk through these grounds, enjoying all aspects of our precious culture and heritage. This year’s festivities have a unique feel however. One hundred years after the genocidal Turks set out to annihilate the Armenian nation, the mass participation of our community over these past few days and the triumphant parade today is a powerful demonstration of the Armenian will and sends a resounding message that the Armenian people have survived and thrived, and that we will continue to keep the legacy of our martyrs alive as we reaffirm our pledge to remember and demand,” stated His Eminence.

On the evening of Friday, July 3rd, the Navasartian Victory Ball was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The Prelate attended and delivered the invocation, in which he commended the Homenetmen Central and Regional Executives, the local chapters and the volunteers, all of whom work in unison to make the Navasartian games and festival the great success that it is year after year. The Prelate blessed this year’s honorary presidents Mr. and Mrs. Varant and Hoori Melkonian for their widespread and longstanding generosity to countless Armenian organizations, Exemplary Member Mr. Jirayr Sarkissian for his devoted service within Homenetmen spanning decades, the sponsors and donors for their vital support and encouragement, and the young scouts and athletes who are the hope and future of our nation.

On Thursday, July 2nd, opening day, the Prelate visited the festival booths and conveyed his blessings to the leadership and members of Homenetmen.
