Prelate Hosts Fellowship Service with Armenian Evangelical Church

By the invitation of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, on Thursday, March 26, 2015, Armenian Evangelical Church pastors gathered at St. Sarkis Church in Pasadena for a fellowship service with Prelacy clergy members, setting the foundation for a new tradition between the two churches.

His Eminence conveyed his fraternal greetings to the pastors and briefly expounded on the poignant service composed by St. Nerses the Graceful. The clergy collectively conducted the Sunrise Service, at the conclusion of which the shared sentiment was that a new annual tradition was inaugurated.

A reception hosted by the parish Board of Trustees Ladies Guild followed at “Andonian” Hall. On behalf of the Prelate and fellow clergy members, host parish pastor Rev. Fr. Boghos Baltayan once again welcomed the guest clergy. Rev. Joe Matossian praised God for the day and thanked the Prelate for hosting the service and strengthening the fellowship between the churches. During the lunch, clergy members introduced themselves to become better acquainted with one another. The guests also expressed their appreciation to the Prelate and Prelacy clergy for their support and collaboration.

The Prelate thanked God for bringing His servants together to strengthen His church and announced that this first fellowship service and meeting will become an annual tradition. Referencing the upcoming canonization of Armenian Genocide martyrs, His Eminence concluded by affirming “we will continue our path toward justice strengthened and encouraged by their intercession.”

The gathering came to a close with the benediction and the Cilician and Armenian national anthems. Guest clergy received Garo Bedrossian’s “Feasts of the Armenian Church and National Traditions” and illustrated copies of William Saroyan’s famous quote about the survival of the Armenian people.
