Prelate Presides Over Last Sunrise Service of Lent at Holy Martyrs Church

On the morning of Wednesday, March 27, 2012, the last Sunrise Service of Great Lent was conducted in Prelacy Churches.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, presided over the service at Holy Martyrs Church in Encino and delivered his message to the faithful in attendance, among them students of Ferrahian High School. Referring to his sermon delivered at the first Sunrise Service in the same Church, the Prelate reiterated the meaning and message of Great Lent and urged the faithful to commemorate Palm Sunday and Holy Week with the same faith and somberness they exhibited during Great Lent, and to prepare spiritually to joyfully celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The traditional luncheon followed at “Dikranian” Hall. The lunch was held under the auspices of the Prelate, organized by parish Ladies Auxiliary, and hosted by Mrs. Ashkhen Baharian and Mr. and Mrs. Dikran and Houri Berberian.

Following the blessing of the tables, welcoming remarks were delivered by Parish Pastor Rev. Fr. Razmig Khatchadourian and Ladies Auxiliary chair Mrs. Meline Ashekian. Ferrahian School 10th grade student Lea Keshishian recited a piece dedicated to the Armenian language.

The keynote speaker was Ferrahian School Armenian teacher Mr. Ara Kazanjian, who spoke on the Armenian Book, given that His Holiness Catholicos Aram I has dedicated this year to the Armenian Book.

In his concluding remarks, the Prelate commended the organizers, hosts, and participants of the event. He stated that the day began with the Sunrise Service during which our spirits were nourished, and continued with the luncheon and lecture during which our bodies and minds were nourished as well. His Eminence stressed the importance of maintaining the right balance between keeping our minds, bodies, and souls nourished in our service to our Lord and our Church. In conclusion, speaking on the “Year of the Armenian Book”, the Prelate noted that “the Armenian book is not just paper and ink, it is Armenian faith, Armenian spirit, Armenian identity”.
