Prelate Visits Mesrobian School


On the occasion of the start of the 2016-2017 academic year, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, has been visiting Prelacy Schools since mid-August to convey his blessings and message to the principals, directors, faculty, and students for a successful school year. The Prelate and guests were greeted by Principal David Ghoogasian and student council members at the school entrance, where His Eminence conducted the blessing of salt and bread, after which they headed to the hall where a program was held.

Mr. Ghoogasian welcomed the Prelate and thanked him for the ordination of students Alex Manoukian and Hrag Harboian as acolytes a few days prior on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The Principal also touched upon the school’s mission and the students’ commitment to upholding our national values. Two students recited the poem, “The Armenian Church,” after which the Prelate was invited to deliver his message.

His Eminence first invited the two new acolytes to express their thoughts and feelings on their ordination, after which he delivered his message. Referring to the sign posted on the wall that read “Mesrobian School: Source of Light and Cradle of Hope,” the Prelate spoke about the legacy of St. Mesrob Mashdots and our forefathers, stressing the importance of upholding and continuing their legacy, our language, and our heritage. Speaking on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the Prelate emphasized that the Cross is the fundamental symbol for Christians and urged the students to look to the Cross as the greatest source of light and hope. Lastly, the Prelate spoke of the forthcoming visit of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I on the 20th anniversary of this enthronement and the events planned on this occasion. He informed the students that their principal will be one of the speakers at the 20th anniversary celebratory event on 1st, and encouraged the students and teachers to attend the event as well as the meeting of His Holiness with the youth on September 30. The program concluded with the benediction and the Lord’s Prayer, after which the Prelate visited classrooms and conversed with the young students. A lunch reception followed.
