Third Annual Christmas Concert of St. Sarkis Church of Pasadena

On Friday, December 20, 2019, the third annual Christmas concert of St. Sarkis Church of Pasadena was held under the auspices of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, and organized by Parish Pastor Rev. Fr. Boghos Baltayan and the Board of Trustees. The concert was presented by the church choir, with Choirmaster Deacon Yervant Keshishian as the conductor.

In attendance were H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Khoren Babochian, Rev. Serop Megerdichian, Executive Council member Avo Kechichian, Delegates, Board of Trustees, and Ladies Guild members, and a large number of faithful.

The program began with the Lord’s Prayer, after which Fr. Boghos delivered opening remarks welcoming the guests and also reflecting on the message of Christmas.

The concert featured traditional Armenian hymns as well as popular Christmas carols in various languages, with Bible readings in between recounting the Nativity and Theophany of our Lord from the Annunciation to His baptism. The children’s choir added to the festive atmosphere with their heartwarming renditions of a pair of songs.

The Prelate delivered the closing message, which he began by blessing and commending the choir and, in particular, the conductor for his diligence and zeal. His Eminence noted that the concert was pleasing to our physical ears and hoped that our souls too were stirred and we were filled with divine peace as we felt God’s presence. Speaking on the Nativity, the Prelate stated that God fulfilled His promise of salvation with the Birth of Christ; the Son of God became man and came to this earth in the most humble of circumstances, affirming that God is indeed everywhere, even on the darkest and gloomiest night. “As the angels said to Mary, Joseph, and to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid,” for the Lord is with us. If we feel God’s presence we will walk more confidently and courageously, and if we feel His heavenly peace, love, goodness, and harmony here in this world, then we have a duty to share and spread it just as the shepherds spread the good tidings of the angel,” said the Prelate. He concluded by blessing and commending the parish pastor and board, and wishing all a happy New Year and Christmas.

On this occasion, and on behalf of authors Bedros Alahaidoyan and Dr. Dzovig Meguerian-Markarian, the Prelate presented to the choir the Catholicosate’s newly published volumes of Parsegh Ganachian’s musical works.

The evening came to a close with the benediction and singing of Cilicia.
