EPISCOPAL DIVINE LITURGY ON THE NAME DAY OF
ST. GREGORY CHURCH IN SAN FRANCISCO

SanFranciscoChurchSaturday, March 16, 2013 is the Feast of St. Gregory the Illuminator’s Descent into the Pit.  This Feast is also the name day celebration of St. Gregory Church of San Francisco.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, will travel to San Francisco on Saturday and meet with the Pastor, Board of Trustees, and Delegates to discuss parish related issues.

On Sunday, March 17, the Prelate will celebrate Divine Liturgy and deliver the sermon, and following the service will conduct the blessing of madagh.

By the ordinance of the Prelate and the request of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry board, on this day the organization will set up information desks at our Churches to register donors and answer questions regarding bone marrow stem cell transplantation.  The Prelacy and ABMDR have a long history of collaboration and cooperation, and this outreach effort takes place annually in our Churches.

PRELATE TO ATTEND INAUGURATION OF POPE FRANCIS I

PopeFrancisIOn Tuesday, March 19, His Holiness Pope Francis I will be officially installed as the new Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church at Saint Peter’s Basilica.

His Holiness Catholicos Aram I has appointed the Prelate to be part of the delegation representing the Catholicosate of Cilicia at the Papal Inaugural Mass.

On Thursday, March 14, the Prelate sent a letter to H.E. Archbishop Jose Gomez of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, congratulating the Roman Catholic Community of Los Angeles on the election of the new Pope.  “We share in your joy on this momentous occasion and pray first and foremost for the good health of His Holiness Pope Francis I throughout his papacy.  May Almighty God grace His Holiness the strength, courage, and divine wisdom to lead the world’s vast Catholic population with the same humility and compassion he has demonstrated throughout his ministry.  May God bless and safeguard the Roman Catholic Church and community of faithful around the world”, stated the Prelate.

PRELATE TO ATTEND ENTHRONEMENT OF
THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY

Justin Welby, the bishop of Durham, is expected to be named the archbishop of Canterbury on FridayOn Thursday, March 21, The Most Reverend and Rt. Hon. Justin Welby will be enthroned as the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of All England and Metropolitan.

On behald of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, the Prelate will represent the Catholicosate of Cilicia at the enthronement ceremony and congratulate the new leader of the Anglican Church.

The Prelate will arrive in Canterbury on Wednesday, March 20 and return to Los Angeles on Saturday, March 23, in time for Palm Sunday and Holy Week celebrations.

PRELATE TO ATTEND PILIBOS SCHOOL
43RD ANNIVERSARY BANQUET

On Friday, March 15, Rose and Alex Pilibos School will celebrate its 43rd anniversary with a banquet at Paladio Hall in Glendale.  The Prelate will attend and convey his message.  Executive Council Chair Mrs. Rima Boghossian will also be in attendance.

IN MEMORY OF POPE SHENOUDA II

On Sunday, March 17, the life and service of the late Pope Shenouda II, Pope and Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, will be remembered during the first annual commemoration service which will be held at St. John Coptic Church in Covina.  Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian will represent the Prelate.

HOMENETMEN KAHAM AND NAVASARTIAN
GAMES CEREMONIES

The closing ceremonies of the 29th annual Kaham Games and the opening ceremonies of the 38th Navasartian Games will take place on Sunday, March 17 at Birmingham High School.  Rev. Fr. Vazken Atmajian will attend and convey the Prelate’s blessings.

In the evening, the Friends of New Julfa Committee, which serves under the auspices of the Prelacy, has organized a memorial in tribute to the late Levon Minassian, prominent educator, scholar, author, which will be held at the Glendale Public Library.  Rev. Fathers Gomidas Torossian and Ardak Demirjian will attend and convey the Prelate’s message.
