“Year Of Diaspora” Armenian Lebanon in Armenian Hollywood – The Western Prelacy Sponsors the Tuition for 500 Lebanese Armenian Students

On Thursday, May 12, 2022, a festive atmosphere reigned within the St. Garabed Armenian Mother Church complex in Hollywood, where H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Prelate, presided over an event dedicated to the Armenians of Lebanon, in light of H.H. Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia’s “Year of Diaspora” declaration. In attendance were H.G. Archbishop Yeprem Tabakian, Western Prelacy clergy, Central Executive and Executive councils members, representatives of community organizations, teachers, students, parents and the public.

The event MC was Archpriest Fr. Viken Vassilian, Pastor of St. Garabed Church, where he commenced his speech, stating; “Tonight’s event full of song, dance and remarks are a result of over two months of tireless efforts by the St. Garabed Church and Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian school’s large family, heeding H.H. Aram I., Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia’s “Year of Diaspora” declaration.

The Armenian Center hall in Hollywood, beautifully decorated with Lebanese cultural symbols and memorabilia, along with the enthusiastic student’s artistic program, short video and the main speaker of the event; Board of Regents Executive Coordinator and educator Mrs. Tamar Tufenkian, extended a spiritual bridge from Hollywood to the Catholicosate of Cilicia.

Inspiring moments were felt during the event through song and dance, music and recitation, and the will to survive of the decades-long post-genocide Lebanese Armenian community. A community that has always existed and exists for the strengthening of the Armenian Cause, and provide endless support to the Diaspora through their actions and dedication to our people. The Lebanese Armenian population in the past century has stepped up from being immigrants to becoming members of parliament, and remains a representative force in Lebanon today.

The Prelate, in his concluding speech, thanked all the participants and organizers, and recognized the importance of the Catholicosate in Lebanon. Leaving behind the catalog of humanitarian losses they have suffered, the Lebanese Armenian Community welcomes and fosters a generation of new Armenian migrants. The Prelate thanked the Lebanese Armenian Community for its continued support and growth of generations of Christian-Armenians, ensuring the survival of our people and culture.

Bishop Donoyan, highly commended the initiatives taken by the Western Prelacy, and detailed his pledge of assistance and investment in the future of the Armenian Community in Lebanon, announcing that the Western Prelacy extends its support to the Lebanese-Armenian students, by sponsoring 500 students in Lebanon for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The evening was concluded by the singing of “Giligia” and “Ee Veh Partsants.”
