The Religious Council Convened for Its Initial Meeting

Christian’s all throughout history have valued themselves and matured because of religious education, that is why religious education is important in the mission of the church. Also, biblical values, apostolic traditions, and instilling church father teachings in the lives of our youth are fundamental pillars in the mission of the church as well.

On Friday, October 23, 2020, H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Prelate, presided over the initial meeting of the Religious Council at the Western Prelacy. Prior to the start of the meeting, Religious Council members lifted up their prayers for the souls lost during the war in Artsakh, for the strength and perseverance of our soldiers, for the safety of Armenia and the steadfastness of the Armenian people. Also, the clergy members beseeched God for His guidance, so that the meeting will be able to achieve the goals of the Religious Council.

Following the election of the Religious Council during the 48th National Representatives Assembly and receiving the ratification of the Pontiff, during its first meeting, the Western Prelacy Religious Council elected its Tivan; Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian as Chairman, Very Rev Fr. Smpad Saboundjian as Co-Chair and Rev. Fr. Karekin Bedourian as Secretary. Also, its advisors; Archpriest Fr. Vicken Vassilian, Rev. Fr. Boghos Baltagyan, Rev. Fr. Ardag Demirjian and Rev. Fr. Movses Shannakian.

During the meeting, the Religious Council members deliberated on future religious and Christian educational endeavors. The emphasis was placed on the activities relating to children and youth, such as; educational seminars, preparing youth to serve in our churches to enliven the church and many other activities.

The Religious Council will convene on a biweekly basis at the Western Prelacy.
