
On the morning of Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the Western Prelacy’s secondary, middle, and elementary schools welcomed and celebrated the start of the 2025–2026 academic year. Across all campuses, returning and new students, School Board members, representatives, dedicated teachers and educators, parents, friends, and benefactors gathered to mark the start of the new school year.
H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States, joined the large community of Holy Martyrs Ferrahian Armenian School in Encino and presided over the opening day ceremony. The Prelate was joined by Archpriest Fr. Razmig Khatchadourian, Pastor of Holy Martyrs Armenian Apostolic Church, and Mr. Vahe Hovaguimian, Chairman of the Western Prelacy Executive Council.
The Prelate warmly greeted the enthusiastic students and their parents, officially declaring the schools open for the new academic year. H.E. Archbishop Khacherian described the day as vibrant and rewarding, noting that the reopening of Armenian schools reflects the vitality of the wider community and congratulated both young and old wishing them a successful and safe year ahead.
Later that day, H.E. Archbishop Khacherian, accompanied by Fr. Razmig Khatchadourian and Mr. Hovig Bedevian, member of the Executive Council, attended the opening ceremony at Holy Martyrs Marie Cabayan Elementary. There, the Prelate encouraged the young students and their parents, praised the unity of the school community, and emphasized that each person contributes not only to strengthening the school as an institution but also to the advancement of the Armenian community. H.E. Archbishop Khacherian concluded by offering his fatherly blessings to all in attendance.
During his visit, H.E. Archbishop Khacherian also toured the recently acquired property designated for the elementary expansion project, extending his best wishes for the school’s continued success.
Opening ceremonies at the remaining Prelacy Armenian Schools in California were attended by local parish pastors, Executive Council members, and Board of Regents representatives. At each school, the Prelate’s message and fatherly wishes were shared with students and guests, bringing the community together in celebration of the new academic year.
