Armenia Fund USA Allocates $150,750 In Six-Month Tuition Scholarships For Students Of Prelacy Armenian Schools Impacted By The Los Angeles County Wildfires

By January 31, 2025No Comments

The recent wildfires that devastated Los Angeles County caused significant damage to the Armenian community in Altadena and surrounding areas, as well as to the Armenian population of the San Fernando Valley and its neighboring regions. Among those directly impacted by these wildfires were Armenian community institutions, including Armenian schools and students. Many Armenian families in these areas lost their homes, faced severe financial and emotional distress, and numerous students were left displaced.

Providing financial assistance to students of Armenian schools impacted by the wildfires became a topic of discussion during a recent meeting of Armenia Fund USA’s Board of Directors, in which, alongside the spiritual leaders of the Armenian community, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States, also participated in an official capacity. The meeting addressed the impact of the devastating wildfires on Armenian communities, particularly Armenian schools, and explored possibilities for Armenia Fund USA to extend support to these institutions.

We are pleased to announce that, based on compiled data presented to the Board of Directors, Armenia Fund USA has allocated $150,750 in scholarships to cover six months of tuition for students of Western Prelacy Armenian Schools and Preschools who were directly affected by the Los Angeles County wildfires.

Students who sustained direct losses due to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles County will be eligible for tuition assistance from this fund, including those attending Levon and Hasmig Tavlian Armenian Preschool in Pasadena, Armenian Mesrobian School in Montebello, Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School in Encino, and Vahan & Anoush Chamlian Middle School in Glendale.

H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian and the Executive Council of the Western Prelacy of the United States express their gratitude to Armenia Fund USA for extending its assistance to the Armenian community of the Western region during these difficult times. Armenia Fund USA, which has long enjoyed the generosity of the local Armenian community, has now reciprocated by offering financial support back to the community in this time of crisis. As a result of the generosity demonstrated by Armenia Fund USA, our children and youth will be able to continue and successfully complete the current academic year in a secure and stable environment.
