On the evening of Thursday, October 26, 2023, a special dinner was held to commemorate the third Anniversary of H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan’s election as Prelate of the Western Prelacy. Present at the dinner were Prelacy churches deans and pastors, members of the Central Executive, Religious and Executive Councils, Board of Regents of Prelacy Armenian Schools, Chairpersons of local Board of Trustees, Prelacy Armenian Schools Principals and Preschool Directors, as well as Ladies’ Auxiliary and Western Prelacy staff attended the dinner.
During the evening, various representatives conveyed messages of congratulations and expressed their gratitude and appreciation towards H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, for his efforts in revitalizing the Western Prelacy and his commitment to serving our people and communities. The evening overflowed with heartfelt wishes, for H.G. Bishop Donoyan’s future, asking for God’s blessings to ensure his good health and the wisdom to effectively navigate through the challenging circumstances facing the Armenian nation with the same resilience, composure affection and attentiveness.
H.G. Bishop Donoyan expressed his gratitude to those in attendance and acknowledged the exceptional nature of this moment. He emphasized that his education at the Catholicosate of the Holy See of Cilicia in Antelias has had a transformative effect on his life, enabling him to serve the Western Prelacy and pursue higher and more noble endeavors. As the Prelate of the Western Prelacy, H.G. Torkom Donoyan highlighted the importance of unity, with the mind, soul, and body working together to serve the greater interests of our nation, homeland, the Armenian Church, and the community. He stressed the need to approach these goals with precision, professionalism, and the ability to set objectives and assess outcomes. With the guidance and efforts of Church leaders, this approach will lead to significant and ongoing accomplishments.
H.G. Bishop Donoyan reiterated the significance of unbiased service in his speech and encouraged attendees to embrace universal vision. He emphasized that by doing so, the rewards and outcomes of one’s righteous labor would be even more rewarding and enduring in heaven. Additionally, H.G. Bishop Donoyan made remarkable announcements, informing the audience that the “Aram I Catholicos Fund” has achieved a milestone of one million dollars.
When it comes to the forthcoming visit of His Holiness Aram I, the Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia, to the Western Prelacy, it was stressed the importance of thorough preparation to warmly receive him in our region. Additionally, he announced about the construction of a special garden dedicated to His Holiness Aram I at the recently acquired property in La Crescenta, where St. Archangel Church will also be located. This garden will feature an open-air altar and will include a statue of His Holiness Aram I.
H.G. Bishop Donoyan also shared that our region will soon welcome four knowledgeable young individuals who will serve in the Western Prelacy. They will bring new energy to various initiatives aimed at enhancing the Armenian-Christian identity among Armenian youth. Additionally, H.G. Bishop Donoyan mentioned that ordinations and awards ceremonies are also scheduled to take place.
In reference to the Western Prelacy’s humanitarian aid efforts as the central focus of their activities, H.G. Bishop Donoyan emphasized the unwavering support provided by the Executive and Religious Councils and Local Bodies in terms of expanding and renovating Prelacy Armenian Schools and Churches.
H.G. Torkom Donoyan speaking on prospective future projects and activities, revealed plans to construct a new Armenian and Christian education center on the recently acquired property adjacent to the current Western Prelacy. Additionally, he mentioned that the Western Prelacy is also going through a period of complete renovation.
H.G. Bishop Donoyan’s next announcement that the Western Prelacy Endowment Fund had grown by 400 percent (400%) in the last three years, was greeted by the audience with an increasing wave of applause. This achievement was credited to the unrelenting dedication of the Executive Council during H.G. Bishop Donoyan’s tenure as the Prelate of the Western Prelacy.
As a last announcement, H.G. Bishop Donoyan noted that in the coming months of February and March, Prelacy parishes local Board of Trustees and delegates elections will take place, which will be followed by the elections of the Executive and Religious Councils, and the Western Prelacy Prelate.
Concluding his speech, H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan stated. “We are hopeful that the Western Prelacy will achieve unprecedented success in future years to come with renewed drive, resilience, and determination, for which we will always pray and support.”
The evening was concluded by the Prelate’s prayer and singing of “Cilicia”.
