On the afternoon of Saturday, January 11, 2025, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States, along with the Executive Council Divan of the Western Prelacy, held a virtual consultative meeting with Deans, Pastors and Chairmen of the Boards of Trustees from local parishes in Los Angeles County. This meeting was held in response to the large-scale fires that have impacted Los Angeles County. The virtual meeting also served as an opportunity to have an update on the challenges facing each parish and to discuss the possibilities of extending a helping hand and providing assistance to the community.
The following conclusions were reached at the consultative meeting:
• Each local parish will establish a relief committee. The mission of the committee will be to coordinate and collect essential supplies and food and to oversee the distribution of essential supplies to individuals and families impacted by the fires and currently in need of assistance and support.
• Each local parish will compile a list of Armenian families that have lost their residence and business.
• Western Prelacy church halls in the greater Los Angeles region, will be made available and continue to serve as shelters for Armenian families who have lost or have been displaced from their homes, providing support and assistance to the full extent of our capabilities.
• All Western Prelacy churches, as well as the Western Prelacy itself, will be accepting contributions either online or in person. The funds raised from these contributions will be centralized at the Western Prelacy and distributed to families in need through the Central Relief Committee, operating under the auspices of the Western Prelacy of the United States.
The Prelate and the Executive Council of the Western Prelacy of the United States will actively monitor the circumstances in our community and provide the necessary assistance and support promptly within the full extent of our capabilities, till furher notice.
