On Sunday, September 17, 2023, with the invitation of H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Prelate of the Western Prelacy, H.E. Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian, conducted a ceremonial Divine Liturgy at Holy Cross Cathedral in Montebello, CA. On the occasion of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Archbishop Sarkissian delivered a sermon, blessed the Madagh, and congratulated the parishioners and community for the Name Day of Holy Cross Cathedral.
Very Rev. Muron Aznikian, Dean, Rev. Fr. Ashod Kambourian, Pastor, assisted at the altar, along with deacons and acolytes of Holy Cross Cathedral.
In his sermon, H.E. Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian cited the words of the prophet David and shared that the Lord grants a sign to those who have reverence for him and trust in him. Archbishop Sarkissian explained that the Lord performs miracles when those who receive his sign face difficulties, are oppressed, or experience tragic events or deceit. He stressed that the Lord’s miracles are especially evident when individuals find themselves suffering and feeling powerless causing them to turn to God for assistance. H.E. Archbishop Sarkissian concluded his sermon by sharing that our Lord is the God of salvation and the symbol of the Cross represents the Crucified. Additionally, he emphasized that the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross serves as a means to connect us to heaven through Christ.
