At the invitation of H.E. Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States, along with Very Rev. Fr. Zareh Sarkissian, Dean of St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church of Glendale, participated in a two-day conference on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, and Wednesday, July 3, 2024. The two-day conference, the 47th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, focused on the church, clergy, and secular leaders of the Greek Orthodox Church of North America and was held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.
The conference presented a welcoming opportunity for H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, to reunite and reconnect with his longstanding friend, H.E. Archbishop Elpidophoros. During the conference, H.E. Archbishop Elpidophoros extended his congratulations to H.E. Archbishop Khacherian on his recent election as the Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States and expressed confidence and optimism in collaborating to further expand inter-church activities and initiatives in North America.
On this occasion, H.E. Archbishop Khacherian also participated in a Divine Liturgy held during the two-day conference. The Prelate engaged in meaningful dialogue with spiritual leaders in attendance, exploring potential avenues and opportunities for fostering greater cooperation and collaboration in the future.
H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian also took part in a session focused on exploring the concerns and interests of Christian churches overall, with a specific emphasis being placed on Orthodox Churches. Additionally, H.E. Archbishop Khacherian attended a Greek national and revolutionary concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Following the concert, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian convened with H.E. Metropolitan Gerasimos of the Greek Orthodox Church of San Francisco. At this meeting, H.E. Archbishop Khacherian expressed his intention to visit H.E. Metropolitan Gerasimos during his visit to San Francisco.
The Prelate also convened a meeting with the Consul Generals of Cyprus and Greece in Los Angeles. At the meeting, the Consul Generals conveyed their deep respect and admiration for the Armenian community and expressed their desire to visit the Western Prelacy.
