On the morning of Sunday, December 15, 2024, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States, presided over the Divine Liturgy and delivered a sermon at Holy Archangels Armenian Church of Crescenta Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Varant and Hoori Melkonian, main benefactors of the church, along with a large group of faithful parishioners, attended the Divine Liturgy. In accordance with tradition and on the occasion of the Feast of St. James of Nisibis, a special requiem service was held during the Divine Liturgy to pray for the memory of the members of the church and benefactors who have passed away.

Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian, Pastor of Holy Archangels Armenian Apostolic Church of Crescenta Valley celebrated the Divine Liturgy, and deacons, scribes, and the church choir served at the altar.

In his sermon Archbishop Khacherian referenced verses 1-10 of the 17th chapter of the Gospel of Luke where Jesus spoke to his disciples on four topics, veering from causing others to stumble, forgiving the sins of a repentant brother or sister, having faith as small as a mustard seed, making the impossible possible, and as “unworthy” servants doing our duty without expecting rewards. Archbishop Khacherian emphasized that these duties are an integral part of our Christian values and explained the significance of each one in the life of a Christian.

During his sermon, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian also emphasized the significance of faith and pointed out how the Crescenta Valley community demonstrated their faith in establishing a church in their community. The Prelate praised the primary benefactor and their family for their contribution and acknowledged the dedication of the Armenian community towards this sacred project. Archbishop Khacherian mentioned that with faith, it will be possible to realize the completion of the church, ensuring that the Armenian community of Crescenta Valley will be fully blessed with its church.

Archbishop Khacherian added, “Our people have a long history of prioritizing the establishment of their spiritual centers and educational institutions, often prioritizing them over their personal homes, even in challenging circumstances.” Alluding to the Melkonian Family’s strong Christian faith and dedication to the church, the Prelate acknowledged the initial efforts made by the couple and expressed optimism that with the support of the entire Crescenta Valley Armenian community, the restoration of the church will be completed successfully, and conveyed his fatherly blessings and well wishes to all in attendance.
