On the morning of Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the final Sunrise Service of Great Lent was observed across all churches of the Western Prelacy. H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States, presided over the final Sunrise Service at Holy Martyrs Armenian Apostolic Church in Encino. The Prelate was joined by Archpriest Fr. Razmig Khatchadourian, Pastor of Holy Martyrs Armenian Apostolic Church, along with the church’s deacons.
Among those in attendance at the final Sunrise Service were the Principal of Holy Martyrs Ferrahian Armenian High School, graduating students, and members of the local faithful community.
In his spiritually enriching message, Archbishop Khacherian centered his sermon on the following passage from the Gospel of Matthew, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” (Matthew 6:19-20). Reflecting on the concept of “treasure,” Archbishop Khacherian noted that treasure is often perceived in different ways, some associate it with power, others invest it in temporary pleasures, while many consider their family and children to be their most precious treasure. The Prelate urged the faithful to seek and hold fast to everlasting heavenly treasures, those that are not of this world, incorruptible, and of lasting worth.
Addressing the students present at the Sunrise Service, Archbishop Khacherian emphasized that the Armenian Church, schools, and youth are among the most cherished treasures of the Armenian people, living testaments to the nation’s enduring existence and identity. The Prelate encouraged everyone to cherish and protect the Armenian language, culture, heritage, and institutions.
Following the Sunrise Service, Archbishop Kegham Khacherian joined the faithful for a fellowship luncheon lovingly prepared by the Church Ladies Guild.
