On the morning of Sunday, March 23, 2025, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy of the United States, celebrated Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Glendale. As it was the fourth Sunday of Lent, known as the “Sunday of the Steward,” the Prelate focused on the significance of the Parable of the Steward, linking it to the Sundays following the Eve of Great Lent. H.E. Archbishop Khacherian explained that Luke 16 presents the example of a “shrewd and wise steward,” illustrating that one who is faithful in small service will also be faithful in greater ones, and vice versa. Quoting from the Gospel, the Prelate stated, “If you are not trustworthy with worldly wealth, which is not truly yours, how can you expect God to entrust you with true wealth?” H.E. Archbishop Khacherian emphasized that the “Sunday of the Steward” serves as a path toward inheriting the Kingdom of Heaven.
Expanding on this message and relating it to contemporary life, H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian encouraged the faithful to serve God not only in times of judgment but throughout their lives. The Prelate explained that when the day of the Last Judgment comes and God asks, “What did you do with what I gave you?” we should be able to find joy in our good deeds and, with the Lord’s blessing, inherit eternal life.
During the Divine Liturgy, Very Rev. Fr. Zareh Sarkissian, Dean of St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church of Glendale, announced that, under the auspices of H.E. Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, a special prayer would be offered before the sermon for the success of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry’s initiatives. On this occasion, he invited Dr. Frieda Jordan, President of the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, to address the congregation. Dr. Jordan expressed her appreciation for the opportunity and explained to the faithful gathered in the church the critical role of bone marrow transplants in saving the lives of Armenian children battling life-threatening illnesses.
Dr. Jordan further elaborated the unique Armenian genetic heritage that unites the nation and homeland, emphasizing that by donating bone marrow, Armenians contribute their genetic data to the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry’s database. This, in turn, increases the chances of saving the life of an Armenian battling a bone marrow related illness anywhere in the world. After explaining the registration process, Dr. Jordan encouraged unregistered members of the church community to join this vital initiative. Following the Divine Liturgy, attendees were invited to register in the church courtyard with the assistance of Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry representatives.
