On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Prelate, welcomed the visit of director Jivan Avetisyan who is in Los Angeles for the premiere of his film, “Gate to Heaven,” based on the four-day Artsakh war. On this occasion, the director officially invited the Prelate to the film premiere. Rev. Fr. Karekin Bedourian joined in the meeting, while Mr. Avetisyan was accompanied by his colleagues, Narine Voskanyan and Adrine Mirzayan.

During the visit, the Prelate highly commended Mr. Avetisyan for his success in the film industry and, in particular, for his efforts in raising awareness of the history and people of Armenia and Artsakh on the international stage.

The current state of affairs in Armenia and post-war life in Artsakh were discussed as well. Mr. Avetisyan told of his personal experiences and imparted to the Prelate the extent of the physical and mental health trauma facing a large number of Armenian soldiers during and after the war. In light of this bitter reality, the Prelate expressed hope that “Gate to Heaven” will shed new light on Artsakh, the people of Artsakh, and on Armenians as a whole.

At the conclusion of the visit, Mr. Avetisyan expressed his appreciation for the Prelacy’s ongoing support and presented his forthcoming endeavors within the community in the next few days.

The premiere of “Gate to Heaven” will take place on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. at Alex Theatre in Glendale.
